Important Information Regarding the Deprecation of Manifest V2 Extensions in Chromium Based Browsers

Summary

Both Google and Microsoft have announced that they will no longer support Manifest V2 browser extensions in their browsers starting in 2023.

This change will prevent old versions of the Fabasoft Folio Client from communicating with the browser and will disable functionality like opening documents or copying objects into the clipboard.

Information

Based on the currently available information Google Chrome will no longer be able to use Manifest V2 extensions starting in January 2023, while Microsoft Edge will continue limited support until June 2023.

Because of this change in the browsers it will be necessary to migrate existing installations of the old version specific Fabasoft Folio browser extensions to the new universal extension Fabasoft Client !

The current scheduling information regarding this transition can be accessed in the online documentation of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge , but as of now we recommend to start the migration to the universal extension as soon as possible.

Solution

Existing installations older than Fabasoft Folio 2021 or Fabasoft eGov-Suite 2021 may require the installation of a hotfix and an update of the locally installed Fabasoft Folio Client to support the universal Fabasoft Client extension, as documented in Availability of a Universal Web Browser Extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge .

If you are already using the new universal Fabasoft Client extension the steps required for support of Manifest V3 depend on your local environment and are as follows:

Clients With Web Store Access

Existing installations of the universal browser extension Fabasoft Client via the web stores should have already been updated to a newer version with support for Manifest V3 and will not be affected by the deprecation of Manifest V2.

Clients Without Web Store Access

Existing local deployments of FolioChromeExtension.crx, that can not be updated via the web stores, may require an update to version 22.0.1.10 or newer to support Manifest V3, if you do not currently have access to an installation kit with this or a newer version please contact the Fabasoft Support.
