This article describes the steps neccessary to trace the client activities of Fabasoft Folio, this includes for instance tracing the opening of contents, synchonization of objects and mail merge of documents.

In order to capture the trace messages from the Fabasoft Folio Client the Fabasoft Tracer "tracer.exe" has to be started on the client, for more information about the usage please see Fabasoft Tracer.

If the instructions from the Service Desk Ticket include a trace version of the client components, please make sure to follow any additional steps for replacing these components, as provided by the support engineer.

To create the trace the following steps have to be performed:

  • Copy the Fabasoft Tracer on to the client.
  • Close all open browser windows, and stop the Fabasoft Folio Client systray component.
  • Replace the client components with the trace versions provided by the support engineer if applicable.
  • Start the Fabasoft Tracer.
  • Start the browser and navigate to the Fabasoft Folio Webclient
  • Try to reproduce the problem.
  • When the problem occurs, save the tracer output to a file using the menu "File->Save".
  • Upload the trace file to the Fabasoft Support Service Desk.

Please ensure that only trace message information from process, thread and module are recorded, this can be achived by using the Fabasoft Tracer menu "Settings->Output->Default".

Please only start the Fabasoft Tracer when you are ready to reproduce the problem. This ensures that only trace messages that are related to the problem are recorded and helps in the analysis of the trace.

Removing the Trace VersionPermanent link for this heading

To remove the trace versions of any provided library, close all browser windows and stop the Fabasoft Folio Client systray component, delete the trace version of the files from their respective directories and replace them with backups of the non trace versions.

In order to log trace messages the Fabasoft Folio Client libraries have to be replaced by specific trace versions, provided by the support, the normal versions of the plugin libraries do not support tracing.

To create the trace the following steps have to be performed:

  • Close all open Firefox windows.
  • Start a terminal.
  • Create a backup of the libraries in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.
  • Replace the libraries, in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, with the trace versions provided by the support engineer.
  • Start Firefox and navigate to the Fabasoft Folio Webclient.
  • Try to reproduce the problem.
  • When the problem occurs, copy the tracer output in ~/FolioPlugin.trc to a new file.
  • Upload the trace file to the Fabasoft Support Service Desk.

To remove the trace versions of any provided library, close all browser windows, delete the trace version of the files in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and replace them with backups of the non trace versions created in step 3.
