HTTP 404 error when connecting to Fabasoft Web service on Microsoft Windows 2008 R2

Summary

Under some circumstances you get an error HTTP 404 when connecting to a Fabasoft Web service on Windows 2008 R2. The [Enter] page is displayed (so authentication works correctly), but the redirect to the fscvext.dll fails with HTTP 404. In IIS log you see the substatus code 404.8 - "hidden namespace of hidden segment error".

Information

This behaviour orrurs on some installations of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, but we could not identify it on all Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 installations. The IIS feature "Request filtering" blocks content within the BIN directory.

Solution

Remove the filtering of the BIN directory in IIS:

Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
Navigate to the affected web site.
Open the "Request Filtering" module and remove the "BIN" entry.
