Contents may possibly not be saved when using Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0

Summary

You have opened a document in Fabasoft Folio or the Fabasoft eGov-Suite and the changes are not saved to the server. There is no error message on the client but the changed document is usually stored in a temporary directory on the client.

Information

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 apparently uses a pool of processes to display individual pages. This pool of processes is filled depending on the number of open windows / tabs. Unused processes are removed after some time from the pool (in our test scenario there where two processes for one open tab, 5 processes for 4 tabs, then one process for 3 additional tabs).
If Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 removes a process with an open instance of a Fabasoft Tools Manager, this can lead to a situation where an open document (opened from Fabasoft Folio / Fabasoft eGov-Suite) cannot be saved back to Fabasoft Folio / Fabasoft eGov-Suite.

Solution

A possible solution for this issue is to configure a longer delay before Microsoft Internet 8.0 shuts down processes as described in the following article:

For Fabasoft eGov-Suite 8.0 SP1 and Fabasoft Folio 2009 Fall Release (and newer) Fabasoft released a hotfix to prevent such situations. Please contact support@fabasoft.com to obtain this hotfix.

As Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 is not officially supported in versions prior Fabasoft eGov-Suite 8.0 SP1 and Fabasoft Folio 2009 the described configuration of Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 is the only possibility to solve the issue.
