Missing DocProperties and other issues in Microsoft Word 365

With update 2502 and newer Microsoft 365 enforces additional requirements for office add-ins, that prevent the Fabasoft Folio Client integration from working correctly unless certain administrative tasks have been performed.

These changes from Microsoft require all add-ins to be code-signed with a current non-expired certificate that has been placed into the "Trusted Publishers" trust store by the client’s administrator.

Solution

Installing the Fabasoft Folio Client code-signing certificate as a "Trusted Publisher"

If your currently installed version of Fabasoft Folio Client is still under support and has a non-expired code-signing certificate, it is possible to remedy the issue by installing the certificate used to sign "oxFabasoftFolio??64.dll" into the "Trusted Publishers" certificate trust store of the computer.

Get the certificate used to sign "oxFabasoftFolio??64.dll"

Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Fabasoft\Folio 20??\Client\x64" and open the properties of the "oxFabasoftFolio??64.dll" file, in the properties window open the tab "Digital Signatures", select the file’s signature in the "Signature list", open the signature via the "Details" button and then view the certificate via the "View Certificate" button.

Install the certificate as a "Trusted Publisher"

In the dialog with the certificate select the "Install Certificate…" button, in the certificate import wizard select the option "Local Machine", then "Place all certificates in the following store" and select the trust store "Trusted Publishers" via the "Browse" button and at the last page finish the installation of the certificate.

It should be possible to deploy these certificates via Microsoft Windows Active Directory, please refer to the relevant documentation provided by Microsoft. (ex. Distribute Certificates to Client Computers by Using Group Policy)

Updating Fabasoft Folio Client in case of an expired code-signing certificate

If the certificate used to sign your currently installed version of the Fabasoft Folio Client has expired, adding the certificate to the trust store will have no effect, since Microsoft Office doesn’t check the counter signature and therefore doesn’t trust expired certificates.

In this case please contact the Fabasoft Support to inquire if a build with a currently valid certificate is available for your version of the Fabasoft Folio Client.
