You may notice that the number of pages or the layout in the Adobe PDF file you got after converting or finalizing the document differs from the original Microsoft Word Document.
Example
Format | Number of pages |
Microsoft Word Document (docx) | 65 pages |
Adobe PDF | 63 pages |
There is a difference in page numbers, but the content of the files is the same!
Microsoft Word tries to represent the result on screen you will get if you print on the printer that is currently selected. So after opening the document it uses the default Windows printer settings including print quality settings. If you change the printer settings word adjusts the layout to correspond to the new printer driver.
The conversion server might be configured to use a different (default-) printer driver than the client and so after converting the document to Adobe PDF the layout and the number of pages might have changed.
Test table
Printer | Pages after opening | Printer quality |
PDFCreator | 64 pages | 600 dpi (default) |
64 pages | 2400 dpi | |
63 pages | 1200 dpi | |
Adobe PDF | 63 pages | 1200 dpi (default) |
65 pages | 144 dpi | |
65 pages | 300 dpi | |
64 pages | 600 dpi | |
64 pages | 2400 dpi | |
Fax | 65 pages | 200 dpi (default) |
Resolution options are explained in the article http://word.mvps.org/faqs/Formatting/TextReflow.htm
You have to use the same printer quality settings, default printer settings on every Fabasoft Conversion server to get consistent conversion results.
